The Tired Supergirl's New Book

I try to pick quality books to read, especially since my reading time is limited, sometimes to 10 minutes hiding from the children in the bathroom with the door locked (when their father is home, of course!). Last year I read a snippet of a new author in a Christian magazine and it intrigued me so much I bought her first book "All I Need is Jesus and a Good Pair of Jeans". It was a great book! The kind that made me laugh out loud (a lot) and also brought me to tears. I was so moved I blogged about it here.

I also started following Susanna Foth Aughtmon's blog Confessions of a Tired Super Girl. She recently came out with a new book "My Bang's Look Good and Other Lies I Tell Myself". When I saw the opportunity to read it and be on her blog tour I jumped on it! Wow, did this book hit me at the right time! For me, this has been the year of examining how Satan attacks in my life. I love this book because each chapter starts with a lie Satan works in our lives and counters it with a truth from God (based on scripture). For you readers who usually stick to fiction, it is also entertaining! Susanna fills the book with stories about family and friends that tickle you and make you think.

I think my favorite "lie" so far is Lie #3 "I can't be real with God". In other words, we keep our true feelings and issues to ourselves until Satan can really work us up into a crazy woman. From this chapter: "The Liar loves it when we get fake with God. He hopes that better yet, we will stop talking to God altogether."............"Contrary to popular belief , God is used to having people who love Him let loose with how they feel. He is not offended. In fact, one of his favorite people ever said crazy things to Him all the time." She goes on to talk about David and how his emotions were all over the map in the book of Psalms, however, it was OK because David knew that God loved him no matter what and that the Truth (#3) is "God wants me to be real with Him".

I think this really embodies Susanna as an author and is why I like her so much. She is real. She admits her sin and all the guilt, shame, and regret that goes along with it. However, she also reminds us that God loves and forgives us (again and again), is with us all the time in every thought, and that if we trust Him, His plans for us will rock our world (in a better than you can imagine kind of way). Needless to say, Susanna's books are ones that I recommend to friends and will re-read.
